There are various efforts to remove several invasive species of fish from local lakes, rivers, and streams as they prey heavily on the local cooldwater salmonids - Chinook, Coho and Kokanee. The predation of these warm water species shown on the right - with the exceptions of the trout - amount to tremendous losses of our native Pacific Salmon.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) and others estimate some 90% of Chinook and Coho salmon smolt from the Issaquah Hatchery are lost before reaching saltwater (Puget Sound).
